COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science / Bachelor of Biotechnology at RMIT is a four-year double degree that combines medical science with biotechnology to prepare students for careers in health, research, and life sciences industries. In Year One, students complete eight foundational courses covering key areas such as data for science, physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, cell biology, biochemistry, plant and animal biology, digital health, and sustainability in STEM. These subjects build essential scientific, analytical, and technical skills. In Year Two, students study advanced biomedical and biotechnology subjects including genetics and molecular biology, pharmacology and toxicology, human anatomy and physiology, cellular pathways, microbiology and immunology, genomics, gene technologies, and biostatistics, providing a strong understanding of human biology and disease processes. In Year Three, students focus on applied and advanced topics such as human pathophysiology, computational biology, precision medicine, environmental and industrial biotechnology, diagnostic microbiology, systems biology, and Indigenous health and diversity, combining theory with real-world biomedical applications. In Year Four, students complete advanced studies in infections and immunology, neurodevelopment, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, medical biotechnology, proteomics, and research projects. They also undertake a major applied science project or industry/work experience option. Overall, the program develops strong laboratory, research, and analytical skills, preparing graduates for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, healthcare innovation, and related scientific fields.
