COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) (Honours) at RMIT is a five-year double degree that combines chemistry and chemical engineering to prepare students for advanced roles in industrial innovation, process design, and sustainable technology development. In Year One, students complete 84 credit points of foundational study including engineering science, professional engineering practice, engineering design, introduction to chemical engineering, chemistry fundamentals, and digital fundamentals, along with engineering mathematics (MATH2393) or introductory engineering mathematics (MATH2395), depending on prior mathematics background. Year Two builds core scientific and engineering knowledge through subjects such as concepts in chemistry, fluid flow and particle mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, process principles, chemical engineering fundamentals, and numerical methods and statistics for engineers. Students further strengthen mathematical or elective study. In Year Three, students focus on advanced chemical engineering and chemistry topics including transfer processes, process systems design, environmental and hazard analysis, process plant design and economics, process thermodynamics, engineering experimental investigations, and chemistry laboratory work. Year Four integrates advanced chemistry and engineering applications such as analytical techniques, spectroscopy, process control and simulation, chemical engineering computing, sustainable systems engineering, and an applied science project. Year Five focuses on capstone design projects, advanced chemistry specialisations, nanomaterials, and chemical engineering design projects. Overall, the program develops strong technical, analytical, and design skills for careers in chemical industries, energy, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable process engineering.
