COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with a Statistics major at RMIT is a flexible double-major program designed to combine strong foundational science training with advanced statistical knowledge and a second complementary discipline. Students typically complete four subjects per semester, integrating core science studies, two majors, electives, and a final capstone experience. In Year One, Semester One focuses on Foundations of Science, where students study physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, data analysis, and scientific communication, building essential skills for scientific thinking and problem-solving. In Semester Two, students begin both their Statistics major and their second chosen major, completing two subjects in each area. In Year Two, students continue developing both disciplines in depth, completing four Statistics subjects and four subjects from their second major, gaining expertise in statistical theory, probability, data analysis, modelling, and interpretation alongside their complementary field of study. In Year Three, students complete the remaining major subjects, along with two elective subjects that provide flexibility to broaden or tailor their academic interests. The program concludes with a Capstone Project consisting of two subjects, where students apply their statistical and analytical knowledge to real-world or industry-based problems. This structure ensures graduates develop strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in data science, analytics, finance, research, healthcare, government, and other data-driven industries.
