COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with a Physics major at RMIT is a flexible three-year program designed to build strong scientific, mathematical, and analytical skills while providing practical, real-world experience. Students typically complete four subjects per semester, combining foundational science studies, a physics major, minors, electives, and a final-year capstone experience. In Year One, Semester One focuses on Foundations of Science, where students study physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, data analysis, and scientific communication, forming the essential base for advanced scientific learning. In Semester Two, students begin their Physics major while also undertaking a generalist minor in mathematics, strengthening their quantitative and problem-solving abilities. Throughout Years Two and Three, students complete the remainder of their Physics major, gaining in-depth knowledge in areas such as electromagnetism, optics, quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, materials science, and applied mathematics including vector calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. Alongside this, students complete an advanced minor that complements their physics studies and broaden their academic expertise. Elective subjects provide further flexibility to explore additional areas of interest. A key feature of the program is the third-year Capstone Project and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience, where students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scientific and industry-based problems. This structure prepares graduates for careers in research, technology, engineering, healthcare, renewable energy, and advanced scientific industries.
