COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with a Mathematics major at RMIT follows a flexible double-major structure designed to combine strong theoretical foundations with practical, real-world applications. Students typically complete four subjects per semester, integrating core science studies, two majors, electives, and a final capstone experience. In Year One, Semester One focuses on Foundations of Science, covering physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, data analysis, and scientific communication, which build essential analytical and problem-solving skills. In Semester Two, students begin both their Mathematics major and a second chosen major, completing two subjects from each area. In Year Two, students continue intensive study across both majors, completing four Mathematics subjects and four subjects from their second major, developing deeper knowledge in mathematical modelling, statistics, computation, and applied problem-solving alongside their complementary discipline. In Year Three, students complete the remaining subjects for both majors, along with two elective subjects that allow further academic flexibility and exploration of additional interests. The program concludes with a Capstone Project consisting of two subjects, where students apply their mathematical and disciplinary knowledge to real-world or industry-based problems. This integrated structure ensures graduates develop strong analytical, computational, and critical thinking skills while gaining expertise in two disciplines. It prepares students for diverse careers in data analysis, finance, technology, research, engineering, logistics, environmental modelling, and other data-driven industries.
