COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with a Geospatial Science major at RMIT is a flexible three-year program that combines foundational scientific knowledge with specialised studies in geospatial technologies and spatial analysis. Students typically complete four subjects per semester, progressing through a curriculum that integrates major studies, minors, electives, and industry-focused learning experiences. In Year One, Semester One focuses on the Foundations of Science, covering key areas such as physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, data analysis, and scientific communication, providing essential scientific and analytical skills. In Semester Two, students begin their Geospatial Science major while also undertaking a generalist minor or selecting science subjects that align with their interests and career goals. Throughout Years Two and Three, students progressively complete their Geospatial Science major, developing expertise in mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, satellite imagery, GPS technologies, spatial data analysis, and emerging technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Students also complete an Advanced Minor that complements their major, allowing them to broaden or deepen their knowledge in a related field. Elective subjects provide additional flexibility and opportunities for specialisation. A key feature of the program is the third-year Capstone Project and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience, where students apply their technical and analytical skills to real-world industry challenges. This structure prepares graduates for careers in environmental management, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, defence, urban planning, and geospatial technology industries.
