COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science with a Biological Sciences major at RMIT is structured to provide both broad scientific foundations and specialised biological knowledge through a flexible three-year program. Students typically undertake four subjects per semester, combining core science studies with major, minor, and elective subjects. In Year One, Semester One focuses on the Foundations of Science, introducing key concepts across physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, data analysis, and scientific communication, establishing essential skills for further study. In Semester Two, students begin their Biological Sciences major while also undertaking a generalist minor or selecting science subjects that align with their interests. During Year Two and Year Three, students progressively complete the Biological Sciences major, gaining in-depth knowledge of biological systems, organisms, genetics, ecology, evolution, and laboratory and field-based scientific methods. Alongside the major, students complete an Advanced Minor linked to their area of specialisation, allowing them to deepen expertise in a complementary scientific discipline. The program also includes electives that provide flexibility to explore additional areas of interest. A key feature of the degree is the third-year Capstone Project and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience, which enable students to apply their scientific knowledge and practical skills to real-world challenges. This structure prepares graduates for careers in research, biotechnology, environmental science, healthcare, and other biological science-related fields.
