COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is a three-year program designed to equip students with the scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and professional skills required for a career in the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in the biological, chemical, and medical sciences. Core courses such as Introduction to Microbiology, Immunology and Genetics, Biology of the Cell, Chemistry for Food and Life Science, and Introduction to Medical Biochemistry provide essential knowledge of cellular processes, biochemical pathways, and molecular biology. Complementary courses, including Statistics and Epidemiology, Introduction to Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicines, Drugs and Poisons, and Introduction to Human Biosciences, ensure students gain a solid understanding of research methods, drug actions, and human physiology, preparing them for more advanced study. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, and biochemistry while developing practical and analytical skills for pharmaceutical applications. Courses such as Clinical Biochemistry 1, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 1, Principles of Pharmacology, Applied Pharmacology, Human Physiology 1 and 2, and Principles of Toxicology provide a comprehensive understanding of drug interactions, human body systems, and toxicological effects. Students may also choose a university elective to broaden their academic experience or explore interdisciplinary interests. The third year focuses on advanced pharmaceutical science, research, and professional development. Core courses include Pharmacology of Therapeutic Agents 1 and 2, Drug Research and Development, Preclinical Drug Testing, Clinical Trial Design and Management, and Drug Regulations. These courses cover the lifecycle of drug development, regulatory frameworks, and clinical evaluation processes. Students also select one additional course, either Practical Biomedical Sciences or Professional Skills Development for the Pharmaceutical Scientist, to further refine laboratory techniques, critical thinking, and professional competencies.
