COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing is a comprehensive three-year program designed to prepare students for a dynamic and rewarding career as registered nurses. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of nursing practice, human biosciences, and healthcare principles. Courses such as Introduction to Nursing Studies, Principles and Practice of Nursing 1 and 2, and Introduction to Human Biosciences build essential theoretical knowledge and practical nursing skills. Students also study Systems Physiology and Therapeutics for Nursing 1 to understand the body’s functions and medication concepts. Professional Experience Practice 1 provides early exposure to clinical environments, allowing students to apply their learning in real healthcare settings.In the second year, students advance their clinical competence and theoretical understanding through courses like Medical and Surgical Nursing 1 and 2, Mental Health Nursing and Human Development, and Complex Mental Health, Trauma and Recovery. The inclusion of Therapeutics for Nursing 2 deepens knowledge of pharmacology and medication management, while Indigenous Health broadens awareness of culturally responsive care. Professional Experience Practice 2 and 3 offer opportunities to develop confidence and critical thinking in diverse clinical placements.The third year focuses on leadership, advanced clinical practice, and professional readiness. Students undertake courses such as Complex Nursing Care, Law and Ethics for Health Professionals, Health Care Informatics and Research Critique, and Preparation for Practice and Leadership to enhance decision-making, legal understanding, and evidence-based practice. Transcultural, Primary and Community Health emphasizes holistic and community-centered care, while multiple Professional Experience Practice courses ensure comprehensive clinical training. Additionally, students can specialize through electives such as Paediatric Nursing, Palliative Care, or Introduction to Specialty Nursing.
