COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles, professional practice, and the broader social and global context of law. In the first year, students begin with foundational courses that introduce the legal system and its functions. In semester one, students undertake Becoming a Lawyer in a Globalised World, alongside Introduction to Contract Law, Torts Law, and Principles of Criminal Law and Procedure, establishing essential skills in legal reasoning, analysis, and problem-solving. Semester two builds on this foundation with courses in Australian Government and Statutory Interpretation, Advanced Principles of Contract Law, Principles of Company Law, and Law, Business and Human Rights, providing a deeper understanding of statutory interpretation, corporate law, and the interplay between law and societal issues.In the second year, students extend their knowledge to more specialized areas of law. Semester one includes Property Law, Equity, and Technology, Ethics and the Law, complemented by an approved law option course. These courses introduce students to property rights, equitable principles, and the ethical and technological considerations shaping modern legal practice. Semester two focuses on Principles of Administrative Law, Civil Dispute Resolution, and Justice Innovation, alongside another approved law option, equipping students with skills in dispute resolution, administrative frameworks, and innovative approaches to legal challenges.The third year emphasizes advanced legal studies and professional preparation. In semester one, students study Constitutional Law and Trusts, along with courses from the approved option list, providing expertise in foundational governance and fiduciary obligations. Semester two focuses on Enterprise Law: Designing Legal Solutions and Law of Evidence, preparing students to navigate complex legal scenarios, design practical solutions, and understand evidentiary procedures in litigation and corporate contexts. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and research skills, preparing them for professional legal practice, higher legal studies, or careers in government, business, and international organizations.
