COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine is designed to equip students with the scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and professional skills necessary for a career in clinical and diagnostic laboratory environments. In the first year, students complete foundational courses covering human anatomy and physiology, biology and chemistry for human biosciences, microbiology and immunology, and medical biochemistry. These courses provide a comprehensive grounding in the biological sciences while also introducing students to professional practice, Indigenous health and diversity, and sustainable development principles relevant to STEM fields.In the second year, students progress to more advanced topics, including biochemistry and molecular biology, clinical immunology, histology, clinical biochemistry, diagnostic microbiology, anatomical pathology, and haematology. In addition, students may choose an elective course or foundational studies in artificial intelligence or digital health, allowing them to explore emerging technologies in healthcare. This year emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills, preparing students for clinical applications.The third year focuses on professional practice and applied laboratory skills. Core courses include professional skills for laboratory medicine, general pathology, and a substantial professional practice laboratory medicine component. Students also select specialized courses such as transfusion and transplantation science, clinical biochemistry, haematology, medical microbiology, or anatomical pathology, gaining hands-on experience and refining technical proficiency in a clinical context.In the fourth year, students consolidate their learning through advanced coursework in medical informatics, genomics medicine, integrative pathology, advanced laboratory medicine, and biostatistics. This final year emphasizes critical thinking, data analysis, and the application of cutting-edge laboratory techniques. Students may also select one additional specialized course in areas such as transfusion science, clinical biochemistry, haematology, medical microbiology, or anatomical pathology to further tailor their expertise. Graduates of this program are prepared for careers in diagnostic laboratories, research, and clinical services, equipped with both the practical and theoretical skills needed to meet the demands of modern healthcare and laboratory medicine.
