COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Bachelor of Graphic Design program, students complete six core courses that provide a strong foundation in design principles, visual communication, and creative practice. Courses such as Image and Identity, Studio 1 Communication Design, Typography in Design, Colour and Information Design, Graphic Design Studies, and Introduction to Publication Design equip students with essential skills in conceptual development, visual problem-solving, and technical execution. Through a combination of studio projects and theoretical learning, students gain hands-on experience in creating compelling visual narratives and practical design solutions.In the second year, students progress to more advanced studio courses, including Studio 2 and Studio 3 Communication Design, Developing Communication Design Expertise, and Professional Practice in Graphic Design. These courses focus on refining technical skills, enhancing creative thinking, and developing professional competencies necessary for the industry. In addition, students select 24 credit points from university electives, allowing them to explore complementary areas of study that support their creative and professional growth.In the final year of the program, students undertake Studio 4 and Studio 5 Communication Design, Extending Communication Design Expertise, and a Communication Design Capstone Project. These courses are designed to consolidate students’ learning, encourage experimentation, and provide opportunities to produce a professional-level portfolio of work. The capstone project, in particular, challenges students to integrate theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address real-world design briefs.By the completion of the program, graduates will have developed a comprehensive understanding of graphic design, a diverse portfolio showcasing a range of creative solutions, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in professional environments. The program prepares students for careers in areas such as branding, digital and print media, typography, publication design, and other communication design fields.
