COURSE CURRICULUM

RMIT's Bachelor of Fashion and Textiles program offers students a comprehensive education in fashion design, materials, and industry practices, combining creative development with practical skills.In Year One, students complete six core courses that establish foundational skills in fashion design practice, textile materials, industry techniques, fashion storytelling, and sustainable design. These courses, such as Introduction to Fashion Design Practice, Fashion Expressions, and Fashion Design Reuse, provide a strong grounding in both technical skills and conceptual thinking. Students also choose two courses from the program options, allowing for early exploration of special interests or electives.Year Two builds on this foundation with three core courses totaling 48 credit points, including Transform Fashion Design Materials, Fashion Communication Design, and the Fashion Design Partnered Project, which offers hands-on, collaborative industry experience. Students also select three additional courses from the program options or Fashion and Textiles minors, as well as one university elective, providing flexibility to tailor their studies toward their creative and professional goals.In Year Three, students focus on advanced design projects and professional practice, completing four core courses totaling 84 credit points. These include the Fashion Design Persona Project, Fashion Design Strategies and Environments, Fashion Design Project Launch, and Fashion Presentation Design. These projects allow students to apply their skills in real-world and conceptual contexts, emphasizing creativity, problem-solving, and preparation for careers in fashion design, textile innovation, and related industries.Through this structured combination of core courses, program options, and elective opportunities, graduates emerge with both the technical expertise and the creative vision needed to succeed in the global fashion and textiles industry.
