COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Environmental Science / Bachelor of Environmental Engineering at RMIT is a comprehensive double degree requiring the completion of 36 courses (432 credit points), designed to integrate scientific understanding of the environment with practical engineering skills. The program prepares students to analyse environmental systems and design effective technical solutions to complex environmental challenges such as pollution control, climate change adaptation, water resource management, and sustainable development. Students develop strong foundations in environmental science, engineering principles, and applied mathematics, enabling them to understand both natural processes and engineered systems. A key component of the program is the mathematics requirement, which includes Introduction to Engineering Mathematics (MATH2395) for students who have not completed VCE Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics (MATH2393), and Numerical Methods/Statistics for Engineers (MATH2114). These subjects provide essential analytical, modelling, and problem-solving skills required for engineering practice. In addition to core studies, students must complete a minor consisting of four courses from a program minor list, allowing specialisation in areas such as environmental biology, environmental chemistry, or groundwater engineering. The program combines theoretical learning with extensive hands-on experience, including laboratory work, field studies, and industry-related projects. Overall, graduates are well prepared for careers in environmental engineering, sustainability consulting, natural resource management, water systems, environmental assessment, and research focused on developing sustainable solutions to global environmental challenges.
