COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering) (Honours) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to provide a strong foundation in computing, electronics, and systems engineering while developing practical, professional, and analytical skills.In Year One, students complete 84 credit points of core courses including engineering mathematics, engineering science, professional engineering practice, digital fundamentals, introduction to engineering design, engineering computing 1, and introduction to electrical and electronic engineering. Depending on prior mathematics preparation, students may also take Introduction to Engineering Mathematics or Introduction to Environmental and Sustainable Systems Engineering. This year establishes essential technical and problem-solving skills necessary for advanced study in computing and electronic systems.Year Two builds on this foundation with 84 credit points of courses in software engineering design, network fundamentals and applications, systems architecture and design, software engineering fundamentals for IT, algorithms and analysis, introduction to embedded systems, and computing theory. Students also complete either Introduction to Environmental and Sustainable Systems Engineering or Systems Engineering Principles, depending on Year One choices. This year focuses on programming, system design, networking, and computing theory, providing skills for designing and implementing complex systems.In Year Three, students advance to embedded system design and implementation, usability engineering, and software requirements engineering, completing 36 credit points. Additional courses include university electives and selected combination courses or Systems Engineering Principles depending on Year One choices. This year emphasizes practical design, software development, and system analysis within real-world engineering contexts.Year Four consolidates learning and professional practice through 84 credit points, including full stack development, cloud security, real-time systems engineering, software testing, software engineering process and tools, and the two-part Engineering Capstone Project. Students apply theoretical knowledge to complex engineering projects, develop secure and scalable software systems, and gain experience in professional engineering practices. Graduates are prepared for careers in software development, embedded systems, network and systems engineering, and other technology-driven industries.
