COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) (Honours) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge, technical skills, and professional expertise required to address critical environmental challengesIn Year One, students complete eight core courses, including professional engineering practice, engineering science, digital fundamentals, engineering mathematics, creative engineering CAD, introduction to environmental and sustainable systems engineering, Life on Earth, and Energy and Earth's Environment. These courses provide a strong foundation in engineering principles, environmental science, and sustainability, preparing students for advanced environmental engineering studies.Year Two focuses on applied environmental engineering concepts and analytical skills. Students complete seven core courses covering numerical methods and statistics for engineers, pollution control, geological site investigation, environmental issues in chemical perspective, geology, environmental chemical issues, and water engineering. In addition, students select one university elective to broaden their interdisciplinary knowledge. This year emphasizes practical applications, analytical techniques, and understanding of environmental systems.In Year Three, students advance their expertise with seven core courses including urban systems, solid waste management and life cycle assessment, environmental analysis, hydrogeology, engineering economics and infrastructure planning, land contamination and remediation, and wastewater treatment and recycling. Students also select one additional course from options such as catchment water management, transport engineering, or geotechnical engineering, allowing tailored focus on specific environmental and infrastructure challenges. This year integrates project-based learning, technical analysis, and applied engineering skills.Year Four consolidates learning and prepares students for professional practice. Students complete three courses: the two-part Engineering Capstone Project and Ethics, Policy and Law in Environmental Engineering. This final year emphasizes design, problem-solving, ethical considerations, and sustainable engineering practices. Graduates are equipped to deliver solutions that conserve natural resources, manage waste and water systems, remediate contaminated sites, assess environmental impacts, and contribute to sustainable infrastructure and urban development projects worldwide.
