COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Computer Engineering) (Honours) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience.In Year One, students complete six core courses covering professional engineering practice, digital fundamentals, engineering science, creative engineering CAD, engineering mathematics, and introduction to electrical and electronic engineering. Depending on prior mathematics preparation, students may also complete Introduction to Engineering Mathematics. Additionally, students select either one or two option courses from a range of introductory engineering disciplines, including aircraft, chemical, civil, mechanical, biomedical, or environmental engineering, or advanced manufacturing and mechatronics, allowing exploration of diverse engineering areas. This year builds essential analytical, design, and problem-solving skills while introducing students to multiple engineering fields.Year Two develops applied electronics and computer engineering expertise. Students complete eight core courses including engineering computing, communication engineering, electronics, embedded systems, engineering design, network fundamentals, signals and systems, and mathematics for electrical and computer engineering. This year emphasizes practical applications, computational techniques, and systems-level understanding of electronics and communication networks.In Year Three, students focus on advanced topics in embedded systems, electronic circuits, communication engineering, software engineering design, network engineering, and research methods for engineers. Students also choose one technical option from an extensive list covering areas such as mobile and wireless systems, sensors, optical fibre systems, digital design, real-time systems, network security, and professional engineering experience. Additionally, one university elective is completed to broaden knowledge and interdisciplinary skills.Year Four integrates advanced technical learning with professional project experience. Students complete the two-part Engineering Capstone Project and select five courses from a wide technical options list, allowing specialisation in areas such as wireless systems, real-time systems, sensors, network security, computer architecture, or professional and humanitarian engineering projects. This final year emphasizes design, implementation, and problem-solving in complex engineering systems, preparing graduates for careers in electronics, embedded systems, telecommunications, and computer engineering industries with strong practical, analytical, and professional capabilities.
