COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Infrastructure) (Honours) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to provide students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional expertise needed for careers in civil and infrastructure engineering.In Year One, students complete 84 credit points of core courses covering foundational engineering principles, including professional engineering practice, engineering science, engineering mathematics, digital fundamentals, engineering design, introduction to civil and infrastructure engineering, and surveying fundamentals. Students also select 12 credit points based on prior mathematics experience, choosing either Introduction to Engineering Mathematics or Introduction to Environmental and Sustainable Systems Engineering. This first year establishes essential skills in problem-solving, design, analysis, and the fundamentals of civil engineering systems.Year Two focuses on applied civil and infrastructure engineering knowledge, with 84 credit points of courses in structural analysis, steel structures, concrete structures, water engineering, transport engineering, geotechnical engineering, and mathematical modelling for engineers. Students also complete 12 credit points in either Introduction to Environmental and Sustainable Systems Engineering or Systems Engineering Principles, depending on Year One selections. This year emphasizes analytical, design, and technical skills needed to tackle real-world engineering challenges.In Year Three, students advance to 36 credit points of core courses, including construction management, geotechnical engineering, and engineering economics and infrastructure planning. An additional 12 credit points are taken from Systems Engineering Principles or Systems Engineering for Civil Engineers, depending on prior study. Students also complete 48 credit points from a selected minor combination, allowing them to tailor their degree to specific interests and career goals. This year integrates practical, project-based learning with technical and economic aspects of civil engineering.Year Four focuses on advanced design, sustainable infrastructure, and professional preparation, with 60 credit points covering the Engineering Capstone Project (Parts A and B), steel structures, sustainable infrastructure design, and analysis of complex structures. This final year consolidates technical expertise, project management skills, and professional experience, ensuring graduates are ready to design, manage, and lead projects in civil and infrastructure engineering across diverse industries.
