COURSE CURRICULUM

This five-year program provides a comprehensive education in chemical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences, combining engineering principles with biomedical and pharmaceutical knowledge. In the first year, students build foundational skills in professional engineering practice, engineering mathematics, chemical engineering, engineering design, digital technologies, statistics, and medical biochemistry, with additional study in either Indigenous Health and Diversity or introductory engineering mathematics depending on prior qualifications. The second year focuses on core chemical engineering concepts, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, environmental sustainability, human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and immunology. During the third year, students explore advanced topics such as pharmacology, toxicology, drug discovery and development, therapeutics, physiology, ethics, governance, quality systems, process control, and process engineering principles, while also completing an elective. The fourth year develops expertise in engineering experimentation, transfer processes, computer-aided design, clinical trial management, therapeutic pharmacology, process systems design, plant economics, and digital health. In the final year, students undertake advanced studies in drug regulations, environmental and hazard analysis, chemical engineering specialisations, professional skills development, and major engineering design projects. The program culminates with a two-part engineering capstone project, enabling students to apply their knowledge to real-world industry challenges and graduate with strong technical, analytical, and professional capabilities.
