COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to prepare students for teaching across both primary education and secondary schooling up to VCE level. It provides a strong foundation in learning theory, curriculum design, assessment, inclusive education, and classroom practice, while also allowing students to develop a specialised teaching area for secondary education. In Year One, students build foundational knowledge in education studies, child and adolescent development, and introductory teaching practice, establishing the core principles of professional teaching. Year Two expands this with more advanced pedagogy, classroom management strategies, curriculum studies, and initial supervised school placements. In Year Three, students deepen their expertise through specialised subject studies in their chosen area—such as English, mathematics, biology, psychology, or physical education—along with further education theory and extended professional placements. Year Four focuses on advanced teaching practice, curriculum integration, and readiness for employment, supported by significant supervised placements in school environments. Throughout the degree, students complete a minimum of 80 days of supervised placement in educational settings, gaining practical classroom experience. The program also includes Area of Focus options, allowing students to tailor their studies toward specific secondary teaching specialisations. Overall, it equips graduates with the skills to teach confidently across both primary and secondary education contexts.
