COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to prepare graduates for teaching across both primary and secondary school levels, including Years 7–10 and senior secondary (VCE). The program combines core education studies, subject-specific learning, and extensive professional experience. In Year One, students complete nine compulsory onboarding courses covering foundational areas such as language and literacy, early literacy, numeracy, health and physical education, introduction to teaching, and initial professional experience placements that connect theory to classroom practice, along with basic literacy and numeracy testing requirements. Students also begin study in a selected teaching area. In Year Two, students undertake 72 credit points of core education subjects including science education, technologies, Indigenous perspectives, reading and writing, number and algebra, and responsive teaching practice, along with further study in their chosen teaching specialisation. Year Three focuses on advanced pedagogical studies such as humanities, arts, upper primary literacy and English, inclusive teaching, wellbeing, and classroom culture development, supported by additional specialist study in the selected teaching area. Year Four prepares students for professional employment through curriculum and pedagogy studies for Years 7–10 and senior secondary levels, professional readiness, support networks, and extensive supervised teaching placements, along with final teaching performance assessment and leadership-focused electives such as literacy, numeracy, STEM, or sports coaching.
