COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary and Early Childhood Education) at RMIT is a four-year program designed to prepare graduates to teach children from early childhood through to primary school levels. The program is structured to combine educational theory, subject knowledge, and extensive professional experience across diverse learning environments. In Year One, students complete 10 compulsory onboarding modules, including Introduction to the Teaching Profession, Early Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Physical Education, Student Wellbeing, and two foundational Professional Experience subjects that connect theory to practice, along with literacy and numeracy testing requirements. Year Two consists of 96 credit points and focuses on developing teaching capabilities through subjects such as Indigenous perspectives in education, inclusive teaching, curriculum assessment and feedback, teaching technologies, literacy and numeracy instruction, and supervised professional experience in early learning settings. In Year Three, students continue with 96 credit points covering areas such as humanities, arts, science education, upper primary literacy, mathematics, classroom communication, learning through play, and community engagement, supported by further professional placements. Year Four includes 72 credit points of advanced study in leadership, professional readiness, cross-curriculum inquiry, education and society, and support networks, along with additional professional experience in diverse settings and teaching performance assessment. Students also choose specialised focus areas such as literacy, numeracy, or STEM leadership, ensuring strong professional preparation for early childhood and primary teaching careers.
