COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science at RMIT is a structured three-year undergraduate program designed to equip students with the skills needed for careers in data analytics, statistics, programming, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. In Year One, students complete 96 credit points through core courses including Python Programming Bootcamp, Python Programming Studio, Practical Statistics, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Practical Data Science, Advanced Programming for Data Science, and Introduction to Cyber Security. This foundation year provides essential technical skills and a strong understanding of computational and statistical methods. Year Two builds on this foundation with 60 credit points from core courses such as Data Visualisation with R, The Data Science Professional, Big Data Processing, Case Studies in Data Science, and Software Engineering Project Management, alongside 36 credit points from electives or program-selected combinations. This stage focuses on applying data science techniques to real-world problems, enhancing both analytical and project management skills. In Year Three, students undertake 36 credit points of advanced courses, including Data Science Project, Machine Learning, and Data Mining, allowing them to apply learned techniques in practical and research contexts. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, problem-solving, and the ability to communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences. Graduates will be prepared to work in industries such as business, government, technology, and research, with a strong foundation to specialize further in areas like AI, cloud computing, software development, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The degree also provides opportunities for industry engagement, enabling students to gain practical experience and build professional networks while completing their studies.
