COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science at RMIT is a three-year program designed to equip students with the technical, analytical, and practical skills required to work with large and complex datasets across diverse industries. In the first year, students complete 96 credit points covering foundational and practical skills in Python programming through the Bootcamp and Studio, practical statistics, foundations of artificial intelligence, practical data science, advanced programming for data science, and an introduction to cyber security. These courses provide a solid base in programming, statistical analysis, AI principles, and data management. In the second year, students complete 60 credit points in advanced topics such as Data Visualisation with R, The Data Science Professional, Big Data Processing, Case Studies in Data Science, and Software Engineering Project Management, alongside 36 credit points from a selected combination to tailor the degree to their career goals. The third year focuses on hands-on, project-based learning with 36 credit points in courses including Data Science Project, Machine Learning, and Data Mining, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. Throughout the program, students develop skills in problem-solving, communication, and ethical decision-making while gaining practical experience with Python and R programming. The degree prepares graduates to analyse, interpret, and communicate data insights effectively, making them ready for careers in data-driven industries, including business, government, technology, and research, while providing flexibility to specialise in areas such as AI, big data, and machine learning.
