COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice is a three-year program designed to prepare students for careers in the criminal justice sector by combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students complete 84 credit points of core courses, including Introduction to Law and Human Rights, Criminal Psychology, Foundations of Criminology, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Policing, Criminological Theory, and Criminal Law, along with 12 credit points from a university elective. The second year builds on this foundation with 72 credit points of courses such as International Human Rights and Law, Justice Policy, Corrections, Crime Prevention, Global Crime, and Forensic Interviewing. Students also complete 12 credit points in either Applied Research in Criminological Settings or Foundations of Social Research, and 12 credit points from a program option or an alternative negotiated with the Program Manager. In the third year, students focus on advanced professional and practical skills with 72 credit points from courses including Contemporary Organisational Practices, Contemporary Criminology, Professional Ethics and Conduct, Case Management Practice, and a 24-credit-point Criminology and Justice Internship. Throughout the program, students gain an understanding of how criminal justice systems operate, learn to analyse and apply criminological theories, and develop practical skills for working in law enforcement, policy, corrections, and related criminal justice fields. The combination of coursework and real-world experience equips graduates to contribute effectively to public safety, justice reform, and professional practice in a range of criminal justice contexts.
