COURSE CURRICULUM
The Aviation program offers a comprehensive three-year study plan designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical experience required for a professional career in the aviation industry. In the first year, students complete six core courses including Managing the Engineering Environment, Introduction to Aircraft, Introduction to Aviation, Aviation Mathematics, Aviation Quality Systems, and Aircraft Systems. They must also choose between Managing the Air Traffic Environment or Sustainable Aviation and the Environment, along with one university elective. The second year focuses on advancing industry-related knowledge through eight compulsory courses such as Aviation Industry Environment, Airport/Airline Operations, Human Factors in Aviation, Aviation Project Management, Airport Planning and Management, and Airline Operations. Students also undertake flight training through Theory to Recreational Pilot Licence and Flying to Recreational Pilot Licence at Point Cook Campus, Hartwig Air, or RMIT Flight Training Bendigo. In the third year, students continue their progression towards becoming licensed pilots while developing essential management and technical skills. The year includes Aircraft Maintenance Management, Theory to Private Pilot Licence, Flying to Private Pilot Licence, and Introduction to Commercial Pilot Licence, conducted across the same training campuses. In addition, students study Aviation Industry Project and Aviation Safety and Security Systems to gain insight into operational safety and industry practices. The final phase includes Commercial Pilot Licence Theory and Commercial Pilot Licence Flying, providing advanced flight and theoretical training required for a commercial pilot qualification. Throughout the program, students gain a balanced education in aviation theory, flight operations, safety management, and industry practices, supported by hands-on experience at various RMIT and partner flight training facilities. This structured approach prepares graduates for diverse aviation careers, from piloting and airline operations to airport management and aviation safety.
