COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) consists of 48 credit points made up entirely of core units designed to prepare students for professional practice in primary schools. The course begins with the 6-credit Preparing for Teaching Intensive (EDN587), which provides a strong foundation before formal study begins. Students then progress through units that develop essential teaching skills, including Professional Experience: Differentiation within Diverse Contexts (EDN611), Strategies for Effective Learning and Teaching (EDN568) and Research for Teaching (EDN616). The program covers key curriculum areas through specialised units such as Teaching and Assessing Early Oral Language and Reading Development (EDN531), Teaching and Assessing for Reading and Writing Development (EDN533), Teaching Number and Algebra (EDN530), and Teaching Measurement, Geometry, Statistics and Probability (EDN532). Additional curriculum-focused units include Integrated Curriculum in Primary Schools across HASS, Health and Physical Education and the Arts (EDN613), as well as Science in the Primary Curriculum (EDN614). Three professional experience placements form the backbone of practical training: Strategies for Effective Teaching (EDN567), Final Professional Experience: Research in Practice (EDN615) and earlier school-based experience tied to differentiation and inclusive practice. Students also complete Quality Teaching Performance Assessment (EDN499) and a unit on Diversity and Inclusion (EDN612). The course includes compulsory but zero-credit requirements such as the LANTITE Literacy and Numeracy tests (EDN298, EDN299, EDN100) and SimLab Entry Screening (EDN199), ensuring readiness for placement and national teaching standards. Together, these units provide a comprehensive blend of theory, curriculum knowledge, practical experience and assessment skills that prepare graduates to become effective, qualified primary school teachers.
