COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Engineering curriculum at Murdoch University consists of 48 credit points designed to provide advanced knowledge and practical skills in renewable energy systems, sustainability, and climate change management. The program includes 24 credit points of required units covering key areas such as greenhouse gas reporting and life cycle assessment, energy systems, energy policy, energy in society, energy economics, energy auditing and management, climate change science and policy, and carbon management. These units develop students’ understanding of technical, environmental, economic, and social aspects of sustainable energy development. Students then complete 24 credit points of specified electives through either a project pathway or a dissertation pathway. The project option includes Sustainable Energy Development and Energy Storage, supported by electives in areas such as environmental impact assessment, climate change adaptation, solar thermal and biomass energy, wind energy and hydroelectricity, energy-efficient buildings, applied solar photovoltaics, smart low-carbon cities, and hydrogen systems. The dissertation option allows students to undertake advanced research through the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Dissertation unit, supported by specialist electives. This flexible structure enables students to develop expertise in renewable energy technologies, energy policy, carbon reduction strategies, and sustainable infrastructure. Graduates gain the analytical, research, and technical capabilities required to contribute to clean energy projects, sustainability initiatives, climate action strategies, and renewable energy innovation across industries and communities.
