COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Information Technology at Murdoch University is designed to advance your IT expertise and prepare you for leadership roles in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The course offers flexibility, allowing students to complete either a fully coursework-based program or a combination of coursework and dissertation, depending on career and research interests. Total credit points for the degree are 48, with 21 credit points dedicated to core units and 27 credit points allocated to your chosen major.The core units cover essential IT knowledge and professional skills, including applied information security management, IT project management, professional practice, information systems principles, Python programming, data science applications, and research methods in IT. These units are designed to equip students with practical and theoretical skills to manage complex IT projects, analyze data, and develop secure and efficient information systems.Students then specialise in one of three majors: IT Management, Cyber Security and Networking, or Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, each available with or without a dissertation option. The dissertation pathways allow students to undertake advanced research, enabling them to contribute to innovation in their chosen field. Majors focus on strategic IT decision-making, network security, digital forensics, AI applications, machine learning, and advanced data analytics, providing graduates with highly sought-after skills in the global IT market.Graduates of this program are prepared for a wide range of IT careers across multiple sectors, including commerce, telecommunications, health, education, engineering, and government. Career opportunities include IT Project Manager, Network Administrator, Data Analyst, and Business Intelligence Officer. The program is professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), and the Cyber Security and Networking major provides pathways to industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), and Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA), enhancing employability and recognition in the IT profession worldwide.
