COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Health Care Management (Specialisation) curriculum at Murdoch University consists of 48 credit points designed to develop advanced healthcare leadership, management, research, and specialist practice skills. The course includes 36 credit points of core study, with 33 credit points of required units covering key areas such as bioethics and healthcare law, leadership, health policy, patient safety, healthcare management, research methods, financial management, clinical governance, healthcare research, and digital innovation. These units provide students with the knowledge and capabilities required to manage complex healthcare environments, improve quality and safety, lead organisational change, and make evidence-based decisions. Students also complete 3 credit points of elective study, allowing them to strengthen professional skills through subjects such as postgraduate communication, nonprofit leadership, or human resource management. In addition, students select a 12-credit-point specialisation in either Contemporary Mental Health or Gerontological Healthcare. The Contemporary Mental Health major develops advanced understanding of mental health practice and evidence-based approaches to supporting individuals with mental health conditions, while the Gerontological Healthcare major focuses on specialised care and management of services for older adults. Overall, the curriculum combines healthcare leadership, management principles, research expertise, and specialist knowledge to prepare graduates for senior roles in healthcare organisations, quality improvement, patient safety, clinical governance, and specialised healthcare services.
