COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Criminology curriculum consists of 48 credit points, combining 24 credit points of core units with 24 credit points of elective study that allow students to tailor the program to their career goals. The core units provide a strong foundation in criminological theory, research methods, crime prevention, contemporary criminal justice issues, and applied problem-solving techniques, equipping students with the analytical and practical skills required to address complex criminal justice challenges. Students can then specialize through contemporary criminology electives, including Criminal Law and Evidence, Policing: Issues, Methods and Controversies, Applied Criminal Intelligence, Advanced Transnational Crime, and Cybercrime and Digital Forensics, enabling them to explore emerging areas of criminal activity and law enforcement. Alternatively, students may combine criminology electives with continuing professional development options such as a criminology placement, supervised project paper, research thesis, or interdisciplinary units in governance, public policy, accounting, human resource management, strategic risk management, data analytics, and Indigenous studies. This flexible curriculum supports the development of professional, research, and leadership capabilities while providing opportunities for practical industry experience and advanced academic study. Overall, the program integrates theoretical knowledge, applied research, critical thinking, and workplace learning to prepare graduates for careers in law enforcement, intelligence, corrections, policy development, research, and other criminal justice and public sector organizations.
