COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Communication curriculum at Murdoch University consists of 48 credit points, combining core communication studies with flexible research or professional project pathways. The course core includes 18 credit points covering essential areas such as Global Media: Asia-Pacific Perspectives, Critical and Ethical Issues in Communication, International Strategic Communication and Culture, Web Strategy, and Strategic Communication. These units develop students’ understanding of contemporary communication practices, ethical challenges, digital strategies, cultural influences, and global media environments. Students then complete 30 credit points through either a Research Option or Project Option. The Research Option focuses on advanced academic skills through a Masters by Coursework Research Dissertation and a Communication Research Project, supported by elective choices in areas such as culture, sustainability, political communication, innovation, health communication, social media analysis, and web research. The Project Option emphasises professional communication practice through units such as Communication Management: Professional Perspectives and Communication Research Project, combined with specialised electives. This flexible structure allows students to tailor their studies according to career goals, whether pursuing communication research, strategic communication roles, media consultancy, public relations, digital communication, or industry-based projects. The program equips graduates with advanced analytical, research, strategic planning, and professional communication skills for diverse global and Australian communication industries.
