COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine integrated program at Murdoch University consists of 144 credit points, combining a Bachelor of Science foundation with advanced veterinary training. The course includes 120 credit points of core study, with 48 credit points allocated to the Bachelor of Science component and 72 credit points to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine component. The Bachelor of Science stage develops essential scientific knowledge through units such as Introduction to Livestock Science and Genetics, Introduction to the Animal Body, Cell Biology, Foundations of Vertebrate Form and Function, Chemistry, Statistical Data Analysis, Sustainable and Ethical Animal Management, Veterinary Structure and Function, Veterinary Biochemistry, and Principles of Infectious Disease. Students also complete a required 24-credit-point Veterinary Biology major, building a strong foundation in animal health and biological sciences. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine component focuses on advanced clinical and professional training, covering areas including surgery and anaesthesia, small animal medicine, equine practice, ruminant practice, wildlife and unusual pets, production animal healthcare, veterinary management of animal populations, and professional investigation. Students undertake extensive Core Clinical Training and professional practice units to develop hands-on veterinary skills. This comprehensive structure prepares graduates with scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and practical experience required for professional veterinary practice across companion animals, livestock, wildlife, research, and animal health industries.
