COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental and Conservation Science degree consists of 72 credit points and is structured to provide students with both foundational scientific knowledge and the flexibility to tailor their studies through majors, minors and electives. The course begins with 15 credit points of core units that establish essential scientific skills in statistical analysis, environmental biology, chemistry, ecology and environmental foundations. Students then choose one primary major worth 24 credit points from Environmental Science and Management, Marine Biology or Conservation and Wildlife Biology, depending on their interest area. To broaden their expertise, students also have 30 credit points of Discovery options, which may include an additional major, co-major, minors or general electives, allowing them to customise their degree pathway. These Discovery choices offer significant flexibility and may include one extra major or co-major, or up to two minors, making it possible to combine complementary scientific areas or explore interdisciplinary study. If students wish to add a second major, recommended options include Marine Biology, Conservation and Wildlife Biology or Environmental Science and Management, provided it is not the same as their primary major. For those choosing minors or electives, the program provides a range of recommended and available minors, as well as up to 30 credit points of general electives that can be used to enhance practical experience or explore personal interests. Recommended general electives include Group Projects in Environmental and Conservation Sciences, the Environmental and Conservation Sciences Research Project or a Professional Placement, each worth 3 credit points. These allow students to gain hands-on experience through group work, research or industry placement, supporting their preparation for careers in environmental and conservation fields.
