COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Psychology combined degree at Murdoch University consists of 96 credit points, integrating studies in crime, justice, human behaviour, and psychological science. The course core includes 30 credit points, beginning with the Communication unit Thinking Communication, which develops essential academic and professional communication skills. Students complete psychology specified electives that allow them to explore specialised areas such as Evolutionary Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Psychology Research Placement, Psychology of Ageing, Psychology of Substance Dependence, The Developing Mind, and Cognitive Neuroscience. The Criminology component includes core units covering Criminology in Context, Policing and Crime Prevention, Technology, Crime and Justice, and Culture, Diversity and Crime, along with a specified criminology elective. Students complete 60 credit points of majors, including a 24-credit-point Criminology major and a 36-credit-point Psychology major. Criminology specialisations include Crime Science, Criminal Behaviour, or Legal Studies, while the Psychology major in Psychological Science develops understanding of human behaviour, cognition, mental processes, psychological research, and evidence-based approaches. The course also includes a Discovery Study unit and option units to support broader learning. This interdisciplinary structure develops analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, psychology-related fields, research, government, community services, policy, media, and further professional psychology study.
