COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychology at Murdoch University consists of 72 credit points, providing a flexible curriculum that combines core psychology studies with opportunities to customise learning through additional majors, co-majors, minors, and electives. The course begins with the core unit Thinking Communication, which develops academic, professional, and communication skills essential for university study and future careers. Students complete a 36-credit-point major in Psychological Science, covering key areas such as human behaviour, cognition, development, personality, mental health, research methods, and psychological assessment. A Discovery Study unit encourages interdisciplinary learning and broader perspectives beyond the core discipline. The program also includes 30 credit points of options, allowing students to tailor their studies by selecting an additional major, co-major, up to two minors, or general electives. Recommended study options include the Psychological Studies co-major, Sport Psychology minor, Indigenous Knowledges and Practices minor, and psychology electives such as Psychological Health and Wellbeing, Environmental Psychology and Sustainability, Evolutionary Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Psychology of Ageing, Substance Dependence, Cognitive Neuroscience, The Developing Mind, and Psychology Research Placement. This flexible course structure enables students to build specialised knowledge and transferable skills while preparing for postgraduate psychology studies or careers in health, research, education, human resources, community services, government, and organisational development.
