COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing is a 72-credit-point program composed of 69 credit points of core units and 3 credit points of speciality options. The structure is designed to build nursing knowledge progressively, beginning with foundational concepts in communication, strengths-based care and applied science through units such as Holistic Nursing Care 1 and 2, Nursing Science 1 and Professional Practice 1. Students then develop skills in nursing assessment, understanding diverse health experiences and exploring the healthy human body before commencing Work Integrated Learning 1 in gerontological healthcare. As students advance, they integrate evidence into practice and study acute and chronic alterations to health, mental health nursing, community nursing and collaborative care. Work Integrated Learning placements are embedded throughout the course, including chronic care, complex care, patient safety and transition to professional practice, ensuring students gain extensive hands-on experience across different clinical settings. The program also includes speciality areas such as First Nations Peoples’ health, end-of-life care, paediatric nursing and advanced concepts in complex health conditions. Students complete a final professional practice sequence focused on leadership, professional identity and readiness for graduate nursing roles. In addition to core units, students select one speciality option worth 3 credit points, choosing from areas such as rural and remote nursing, wound care, critical care, maternal and family health, global health, gerontological nursing, perioperative nursing or advanced mental health nursing. Overall, the course structure provides a comprehensive blend of theory, clinical science, practical experience and specialised learning to prepare students for diverse roles as registered nurses across healthcare environments.
