COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Communication combined degree at Murdoch University comprises 120 credit points, integrating comprehensive legal education with specialised communication studies. The Law component includes 75 credit points, featuring 54 credit points of required units covering Foundations of Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Torts, Contract Law, Property Law, Constitutional Law, Equity, Trusts, Australian Administrative Law, Civil Procedure, Corporations Law, Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and Skills for Legal Practice. Students also complete 21 credit points of law specified electives, allowing them to broaden their expertise in selected legal fields. The Communication component includes 18 credit points of core study, with required units in Thinking Communication, Social Media, Communication Research, and Specialist Communication, supported by electives such as Digital Media Skills, Podcasting, Media Law and Ethics, Professional Internship, Web Analytics and Digital Storytelling, Media Audiences, Consulting and Freelancing, and Photography. Students also complete a 24-credit-point major in Communication and Media Studies, Journalism and Content Production, or Strategic Communication, enabling them to develop specialised media and communication expertise. A Discovery Study unit further encourages interdisciplinary learning. This integrated curriculum equips graduates with strong legal knowledge, advocacy, communication, media production, digital storytelling, and research skills, preparing them for careers in law, journalism, public relations, corporate communications, government, media organisations, and public policy.
