COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws at Murdoch University consists of 96 credit points, combining core legal studies, specialised electives, discovery learning, and general elective options to provide a comprehensive legal education. The course includes 78 credit points of core units, with 54 credit points of required units covering fundamental areas of law and legal practice. Students study key subjects such as Foundations of Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Torts, Skills for Legal Practice, Statutory Interpretation, Equity, Property Law, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Evidence, Trusts, Administrative Law, Civil Procedure, Corporations Law, and Ethics and Professional Responsibility. These units develop a strong understanding of legal principles, legal reasoning, professional conduct, and practical skills essential for future legal careers. Students also complete 24 credit points of specified electives, allowing them to explore specialised areas of law based on their interests and career goals. The program includes a Discovery Study component that supports interdisciplinary learning and 15 credit points of additional options or general electives. Students may also choose recommended minors such as Indigenous Knowledges and Practices, Technology and Law, or Indigenous Knowledges and Practices in Law to enhance their expertise in emerging legal fields. This flexible structure prepares graduates for professional practice and diverse careers across legal, government, corporate, and community sectors.
