COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology at Murdoch University is designed for students aiming for careers in computing, software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, gaming, virtual and augmented reality, and information systems. This 72-credit-point program provides a comprehensive foundation in IT theory, methods, and systems, while also allowing students to specialise in areas of interest through majors and minors. Students gain practical and analytical skills that prepare them to address complex, real-world IT challenges, from mobile applications and virtual reality to network security and data analytics.The course core consists of 27 credit points, covering essential IT subjects such as Transition to IT, Cybersecurity Fundamentals, Foundations of Programming, Foundations of Data Communications, Foundations of Computer Systems, IT Project Management, Introduction to ICT Research Methods, Databases, and the IT Professional Practice Project. These units equip students with technical proficiency, critical thinking, and project management skills, forming the foundation for advanced study in specialised areas.Students then select a major of 24 to 27 credit points to develop expertise in a specific field. Options include Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Cyber Security and Forensics, Internetworking and Network Security, Games Design and Development, Games Technology, Data Science, Business Intelligence, FinTech, or Cyberspace, Policy and Security. Certain combinations of majors are available to allow students to broaden their knowledge while meeting the 72-credit-point requirement.The remaining 18 credit points can be used for an additional major, a minor, or general electives, giving students flexibility to tailor their studies. Recommended minors include Information and Systems Security, Information Security Management and Operations, Network Security, Network Design, Information Security and Ethical Hacking, Games Development, and Web Development.
