COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Global Security consists of 72 credit points and is designed to give you both foundational knowledge and advanced expertise in global security studies. You will begin with a first-year core unit, Communication and Persuasion, which introduces essential academic and analytical skills. You must also choose one specified elective from a wide range of humanities, social sciences and communication units, allowing you to shape your study according to your interests. In your final year, you will complete at least one capstone-style unit, such as an industry project, research project, internship or in-country study program, which gives you practical experience and prepares you for professional work. Your chosen major makes up 24 credit points and can be selected from Cyberspace, Policy and Security; Environment, Conflict and Security; Politics and International Studies; or Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies. Alongside your major, you must complete 12 credit points of Global Security electives to broaden your understanding of contemporary security issues. The remainder of your degree is made up of 36 credit points of options, giving you flexibility to personalise your studies. You may complete a second major, a co-major, a minor or a combination of general electives. Second majors are available in areas such as Asian Studies, Criminal Behaviour, Global Media and Communication, History, Human Behaviour, Legal Studies, Sustainable Development, and more. If you prefer, you may choose a co-major or minor from similar thematic areas, including anthropology, gender studies, Indonesian, Japanese, philosophy, and international aid and development. You may also take general electives, with up to 24 credit points available. This structure ensures you gain specialist security knowledge while also developing complementary skills that expand your career opportunities across government, intelligence, foreign affairs and non-government sectors.
