COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Forensic Science is a 72-credit-point program that begins with 21 credit points of core units designed to build foundational scientific knowledge and essential laboratory skills. These core units include Succeeding in Science, Introduction to the Human Body, Introduction to Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, Cell Biology, Introduction to Forensic Science, Fundamentals of Chemistry and Statistical Data Analysis, ensuring students gain a strong grounding across biology, chemistry, forensic science and quantitative techniques. Students then choose a 24-credit-point major from Forensic Biology or Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology, allowing them to specialise in either biological forensic techniques or chemical and toxicological analysis. The program also includes 24 credit points of Options, which can be fulfilled through a second major, a co-major, a minor or a combination of electives. Recommended second majors include Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology, Forensic Investigation, Genetics and Biotechnology, Chemistry, Crime Science and Pharmacology and Toxicology, all of which align well with the core degree and can be completed within the 72-credit structure due to overlapping units. Students may alternatively choose a co-major such as Indigenous Knowledges and Practices, or select minors and general electives to tailor their learning to specific interests or career goals. Recommended electives include group project and research project units in Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, which provide valuable hands-on experience and research exposure. In addition, students complete 3 credit points of Discovery Study to broaden their academic experience. Overall, the structure provides strong scientific foundations, specialised forensic training and significant flexibility for students to customise their degree according to their professional aspirations.
