COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is a 72-credit-point program designed to build strong foundations in engineering theory, applied mathematics, sustainability and practical problem-solving. The structure begins with a non-credit professional practice spine unit that introduces students to engineering professionalism. Students then complete 36 credit points of core units that cover essential engineering principles, including Engineering Fundamentals, Engineering Design for Sustainability, systems engineering, dynamic systems and control, engineering finance and management, and a major design project. Core mathematics and science knowledge is developed through units such as Fundamentals of Mathematics, Introductory Calculus, Calculus and Matrix Algebra, Mathematical Methods and Multivariable Calculus and General Physics. Students also complete a substantial Engineering Design Project worth six credit points, providing hands-on experience in solving real industry problems. The major component comprises 24 credit points, allowing students to specialise in Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering, Industrial Control and Automation Engineering or Environmental Engineering. In addition to the major, students complete 12 credit points of Options, which may be a second major—if not enrolled in Environmental Engineering—or a selection of specified elective units. Elective choices span a wide range of engineering and related areas, including fundamentals of DC and AC circuits, renewable energy systems, PLC and embedded systems, environmental technology, water conservation, electromechanical energy conversion, electrical power systems, power electronics, process control, SCADA and instrumentation, chemistry, discrete mathematics, statistical data analysis and information systems. Students may also choose electives such as Energy Auditing and Management or an Indigenous knowledge unit. This flexible structure ensures that graduates gain strong theoretical foundations, practical engineering skills and the opportunity to tailor their learning to specific interests and career pathways in modern engineering fields.
