COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) is a 96-credit-point degree built around a comprehensive 78-credit-point core that prepares students to teach Years 1 to 6 with confidence and professional competence. The core includes foundational units in ideas in education, understanding teachers’ work, learning with technology, and the development of mathematical and scientific thinking, along with specialised curriculum units across English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Arts, and Health and Physical Education. Students complete multiple professional experience placements embedded throughout the degree, beginning with English in Practice, followed by Mathematics in Practice, Programming Across the Curriculum and culminating in a final extended placement in a primary school. Additional core units focus on assessment, inclusive education, literacy and language development, children and families, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, and the creation and management of effective learning environments. Students also complete LANTITE literacy and numeracy testing requirements and SimLab screening for virtual classroom training. In the Options component, students complete 18 credit points by choosing either an 18-credit-point language teaching minor in Indonesian or Japanese, or a 12-credit-point minor combined with 6 credit points of specified electives. Elective choices span areas such as mathematics for teaching, digital technologies, creativity in early learning, sustainability, climate science, Asian studies, psychology, Catholic education, cooperative learning, English and literacy support, Indigenous culture, and introductory Indonesian or Japanese language units. Overall, the structure provides strong professional preparation, extensive school-based experience and opportunities for specialisation, ensuring graduates are well equipped to meet the diverse needs of primary learners.
