COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education Primary, 1–10 Health and Physical Education is a 96-credit-point degree made up entirely of core units that prepare students to teach across the primary years and to specialise in Health and Physical Education up to Year 10. The course begins with introductory units such as Ideas in Education, Living and Learning with Technology, Thinking Mathematically, Thinking Scientifically and Introduction to Health Education, helping students develop foundational knowledge of teaching, learning and the primary curriculum. Students also complete units focused on English, mathematics, science, the arts, health and physical education, including Teaching The Arts in Early Childhood and Primary, Teaching Health and Physical Education, Teaching Mathematics, Teaching Science and Teaching Humanities and Social Sciences. The degree incorporates specialised HPE training through units like Physical Education, Health and Physical Education and the Curriculum, and Physical Activity and Performance Practicum. A major component of the program is professional experience, with multiple school placements embedded throughout the degree in both primary and secondary settings, such as English in Practice, Mathematics in Practice, Secondary HPE, Programming Across the Curriculum and the Final Professional Experience for primary teaching. Students also engage in professional learning around inclusive education, assessment and reporting, classroom management, children’s literature and literacy development, including teaching reading, writing and oral language. SimLab virtual classroom screening and LANTITE literacy and numeracy components are included as non-credit requirements to ensure readiness for teaching practice and national teacher standards. The degree culminates in the Quality Teaching Performance Assessment, confirming students’ competency as beginning teachers. Overall, the structure provides a comprehensive, practice-rich program that equips graduates with strong pedagogical skills, curriculum knowledge and practical experience for teaching across Years 1 to 10.
