COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Communication combines the study of crime, justice and social issues with professional communication skills to prepare students for careers in criminology, media, government and community services. The course core develops foundational knowledge in criminology through units covering crime in context, policing and crime prevention, technology and justice, and culture, diversity and crime. Students also build communication expertise through studies in communication theory, social media, research and specialist communication, with opportunities to select electives in areas such as digital media skills, podcasting, media law and ethics, digital storytelling, internships, design thinking and client consultancy. Students can specialise by choosing a Criminology major in Criminal Behaviour, Crime Science or Legal Studies, alongside a Communication major in Communication and Media Studies, Strategic Communication or Journalism and Content Production. The program combines analytical thinking with creative and professional communication abilities, enabling students to understand criminal behaviour, investigate social issues and communicate complex information effectively. Through discovery study, options and general electives, students can further tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Graduates will be equipped for roles such as crime journalists, crime prevention officers, communication specialists, policy officers, court administrators, paralegal professionals and positions within government, media organisations, businesses and non-government organisations.
