COURSE CURRICULUM

The integrated Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Master of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control comprises 96 credit points, with 48 credit points allocated to each qualification. The bachelor’s component begins with 15 credit points of core units covering Cell Biology, Statistical Data Analysis, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Foundations of Vertebrate Form and Function, and Introduction to Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, providing a strong scientific foundation. Students then complete a 24-credit-point major in one of four specialisations: Biomedicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Genetics and Biotechnology, or Biochemistry and Nutrition, allowing them to align their studies with their career interests. To further enhance their expertise, students choose two elective units from options including Medical Microbiology, Haematology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, a Research Project, or Professional Placement. The master's component consists entirely of core units focused on infectious disease science, including Principles of Infectious Diseases, Zoonoses, Pandemic Surveillance and Preparedness, Medical Laboratory Technologies, Microbial Bioinformatics, Vaccine Science and Technology, Antimicrobial Drug Discovery, Food Microbiology, Public Health and Epidemiology, and Advanced Research Methods for Scientists. The program concludes with a substantial Major Research Project, enabling students to apply advanced scientific knowledge and research skills to real-world infectious disease surveillance, prevention, and control challenges.
