COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is structured to total 72 credit points and begins with 21 credit points of core units that establish essential scientific knowledge. These include Succeeding in Science, Introduction to the Human Body, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Statistical Data Analysis, Cell Biology, Foundations of Vertebrate Form and Function, and Introduction to Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences. Students then complete a 24-credit-point major, choosing from Microbiology and Immunology, Biomedicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetics and Biotechnology, or Biochemistry and Nutrition. The course is flexible, allowing students to add a second major, co-major or minor within the 24 credit points allocated to the Options category. Recommended second majors include the main biomedical science majors or Forensic Biology, all chosen because they fit within the three-year degree structure. Students may instead choose a co-major such as Indigenous Knowledges and Practices, or select minors like Forensic Chemistry, along with general electives to make up remaining credit requirements. Those interested in research or advanced scientific projects can complete recommended electives such as the Group Project in Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences or the Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences Research Project. Students also complete a 3-credit-point Discovery unit to round out the degree. The course structure is designed to provide strong scientific foundations while offering extensive flexibility to tailor studies toward individual interests and career goals across biomedical, molecular, clinical and forensic science pathways.
