COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts is a 72-credit-point degree designed for flexibility, allowing students to build a broad foundation in the humanities and social sciences while tailoring their studies to specific interests. The structure begins with 9 credit points of course core units, starting with Communication and Persuasion in the first semester, followed by one specified core elective chosen from a wide range of subjects including writing, public performance, Asian studies, theatre, creative writing, social justice, languages, philosophy, politics, sustainability and events. Students also complete one final-year core unit, choosing from options such as an industry project, research project, internship, in-country studies, community development placement or policy internship, with some units offering 6 credit points. The major component of the degree consists of 24 credit points in a chosen discipline, with available majors including Asian Studies, Community Development, English and Creative Writing, History, International Aid and Development, Indonesian, Japanese, Philosophy, Politics and International Studies, Sociology, Sustainable Development, Theatre and Creative Production or Tourism and Events. Students also complete 3 credit points of Discovery Study and 36 credit points of Options, which may be used to form a second major, co-major, one or two minors or a combination of general electives. Second majors and co-majors span a wide variety of disciplines, including criminal behaviour, global media and communication, games art and design, screen production, legal studies, environment and security, human behaviour and more. Students may also choose minors such as anthropology, creative writing, gender studies, events, nature-based tourism, sustainability, theatre, literature, Asian studies or Indonesian. Remaining credit points may be filled with general electives, allowing students to further customise their learning. Overall, the structure provides both breadth and depth, preparing students for diverse careers through academic knowledge and practical experience.
