COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (Earth Science specialisation) requires completion of 96 credit points through a structured postgraduate program that develops advanced knowledge of Earth systems and geological processes. This specialisation focuses on understanding the structure, composition, and evolution of the Earth, including the physical, chemical, and biological processes that shape its surface and interior. Students gain expertise in key areas such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry, Earth surface processes, and environmental change. The program integrates theoretical learning with practical and computational approaches, enabling students to analyse geological data, interpret Earth processes, and understand natural hazards and resource systems. A strong emphasis is placed on applying scientific methods to investigate real-world challenges such as climate change, natural resource management, environmental sustainability, and geohazards including earthquakes, volcanic activity, and landslides. Students also undertake research projects that allow them to apply advanced analytical and field-based techniques under academic supervision, strengthening their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The 96-credit-point structure combines advanced coursework with research training, preparing graduates for careers in geoscience industries, environmental consulting, mining and energy sectors, government agencies, and research organisations.
